Miracles and President Monson
Hello
Friends and Family!
This
week has been a great one, and another one full of miracles. I wanted to keep
it short today, and just write about two miracles we were blessed to see
this week.
First,
while Elder Sieverts and I were contacting, we knocked into a woman named Becca
who was very sweet. We began talking with her, and she opened up about how she
had recently found out she was pregnant, and was worried about a miscarriage.
She explained how she had had one miscarriage before, and she was worried it
might happen again. The Spirit was able to touch Elder Sieverts, and he shared
with her his testimony about the after-life, and how someday she will have the
opportunity to raise her child, and live with him forever through the Gospel of
Jesus Christ. She became very open to our message, accepted a Book of Mormon,
and is allowing us to come back! What made this miracle so special, was that
Elder Sieverts and I had been contacting that whole entire day, and she was one
of the very last homes we knocked. Heavenly Father always leaves the most
prepared individuals for last. I know
that the Plan of Salvation is real, and that, truly, we will be able to live with
our families someday, for eternity.
Second,
Elder Sieverts and I were able to meet with Manny and Jackie again. We
discussed
with them a few things, and Manny had an especially hard time with
Prophets, and has continued to have a hard time accepting that there are in
fact prophets on the Earth today. He
started asking us about certain declarations the prophets had made in the past,
and said, “I just don’t agree with some of the things they have said. I don’t
think they can be prophets.” The Spirit just touched Elder Sieverts and I
deeply, and then we asked him the simple question, “So, if the prophets aren’t
prophets, where did the Book of Mormon come from?” There was silence, and Manny then said, “That
is the thing, I don’t know how it could have just been ‘made up’. It must be a
sacred book in some way.” We were able
to leave our testimonies with him (and Jackie as well), that if the Book of
Mormon is true, then there certainly must be a prophet on the Earth today. I
have continued to gain such a strong testimony of the power of the Book of
Mormon, and using it to respond to objections. There is no argument to be made
against the Book of Mormon; I do know that it exists as 531 pages of evidence
that there is a prophet on the Earth today, and he does lead and guide this
Church.
After
hearing about the passing of President Monson this past week, I just wanted to
share my brief testimony of him. My testimony of this Gospel was first founded
on the idea that Thomas S. Monson was a Prophet of God. When I met him, in
March of 2008, I will never forget the deep feeling that overcame me. It was
not a feeling of being ‘star struck’ after seeing someone you’ve looked up to.
Instead, it was a feeling of peace, joy, and the Holy Spirit of God. President
Monson took my hand that day, looked at me in the eye, and said, “Always
remember to love you mother just a little more than your father.” I can’t help
but smile every time I think of his words that still ring deeply personal and
intimate to me today. I have attempted to live up to that advice, and I continue
to love my mother. I have never been so lucky to have the best mother in the
world. She has taught me who I am, raised me for who I could become, and
allowed me to learn to grow beyond any limits. She has encouraged me to reach
further, higher, and deeper at every turn, and continues to send me love from
across the country. I do know that the closest love we can find here on Earth
to our Father’s love above is that of a mother’s love for her child. There is
nothing more important, or any individual more special to me, than that, of my dear
mother. I love you mom! With President Monson’s advice to me that day, and with
his prophetic voice still in my ears, I feel it an honor to approach every
door, every individual, and every false doctrine that may confront this world.
There is only one true church, and it is The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints. There is absolutely no other way to salvation, except the
saving ordinances that are found in this Church. There is only one binding
Priesthood, and one proper authority that directs this work and that is held in
the hands of the brethren at the head of this Church. I have no doubt of that,
and I have no doubt that they represent the Savior here on the Earth. They are
men of mistakes, and faults at times, but that does not (and will never)
diminish their calling to be prophets, seers, and revelators. I will always
sustain the prophet; I see it as a great honor to do so.
I love
this work, I love the Lord Jesus Christ, and I love the people of
LaGrange.
Until Next
Week-
Elder
Robb
