$1.34
Hello
Friends and Family!
We have been working with a man named Kelly since June. He
has come to Church each week, read half the Book of Mormon AND Doctrine and
Covenants as well as all of the Pearl of Great Price. However, we are trying to
prepare him even more for Baptism and Confirmation to make sure he is truly
baptized a convert. We were teaching him the commandments, and talked about the
Law of Chastity. He had some struggles in the past with this commandment, but
said, "If this is what the Lord needs of me, then I will sacrifice it for
Him." We bore testimony of the beauty of willing sacrifice (2 Corinthians
9:7), and the blessings that the Lord will bestow upon Him by following
commandments. The next day at Church, he walked right in, grabbed a tithing
slip, and filled it out. He gave it to the bishop before Sacrament Meeting, and
as he sat down we commented to him about how incredible it was that he decided
to pay tithing on his own. He replied, "Elders, I need to be honest with
you. I've been struggling a lot financially right now (between jobs), but I
found $1.34 left in my home and decided I would give it all to the Lord. I
figured He would bless me with more if I paid my tithing. I can't wait to see
what happens!"
I felt this deep pit develop in my stomach. I felt my
faith waiver a bit, and wondered throughout Sacrament Meeting, "What if
the Lord doesn't bless him immediately? What if Kelly doesn't see the immediate
benefits of paying tithing?" We went to go to our appointment the next day
and Kelly wasn't there. Shocked (because he has never missed our appointments),
we gave him a call. When he answered he said, "YOU WON'T BELIEVE IT.
Brother Ray (a member of the congregation here in Macon) found me a job working
for him! That is the best $1.34 I've EVER spent! Keeping the Law of Tithing and
Chastity has literally blessed me almost instantly! So sorry I forgot to call
and cancel our appointment, but I'm out on the job site right now! I'll call you
tonight!"
After the call ended, we called Brother Ray to thank him.
He said, "You know if Kelly keeps up the good work, we would love to let
him stay with us and we could help guide him through the Gospel after he is
baptized?"
Words could not explain how deeply this miracle touched
me. Here was a man that lost
almost everything, but decided to give what little
he had left to the Lord. Immediately, in less than a day, the Lord blessed this
man with more than what he had started with. From the Word, we read:
"And Jesus sat over against
the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many
that were rich cast in much. And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw
in two mites, which make a farthing. And he called unto him his disciples, and
saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in,
than all they which have cast into the treasury: For all they did cast in of
their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her
living."
I want to bear my firm and everlasting testimony that
Jesus is the Christ. That The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is
the Lord's literal Restored Church on the Earth. I testify that Salvation and
Exaltation are only found through the birth and blood of our Savior Jesus
Christ. Wearing His Name (which stands above all names) on my chest each day
has caused me to reflect often on the little mite, or farthing, I try to offer
the Lord each day in hopes that He accepts.
Let us forever cast in our mites and farthings to the
Lord. For if we do, we read the promise:
"...prove me now herewith,
saith the Lord of Hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour
you out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it."
Until Next Week-
Elder Robb
